      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>This kitchen (my kitchen) was painted to suggest the medium-dark blue of a French kitchen but it wasn’t quite the right blue and because of that it always seemed a bit off to me. The backsplash area wasn’t painted because I was planning to get it tiled (but I didn’t get around to it).</image:caption>

    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418042858-IPFL7P8V6ANEIXDT5B2Y/my+kitchen+2.JPG</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>I repainted the walls with a rich teal, which I like much better. The room is brighter on sunny days. Since I haven’t decided yet what to do with the backsplash area, I painted it the same teal color for uniformity.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418184547-IYC1FVDAN1AWBBMZ9CSV/my+green+1.JPG</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>The walls in this living room and stairwell (mine) were white when I bought the house. I knew I wanted a green for the walls, and when I chose this green and started painting with it, it seemed rather dark to me compared to the white but I did like it.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418182477-O83IVOQOJ8ZADSGZHEDG/my+green+2.JPG</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>Years later, the green didn’t seem rich enough to me and I wanted a darker green. This is the new darker green being painted over the old lighter green.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418183923-O3YJ4GUM3MQUG95I14JA/my+green+3.JPG</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>This isn’t the best photo but for now it shows the difference in the room with the darker green on the walls. Among other things, I think the woodwork looks much richer against the darker green.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418185481-2HLVGLQPLR7QM9VRCHHW/my+green+4.JPG</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>A photo of the other side of the living room shows the darker green a little better. This green, along with the teal in my kitchen, are the second darkest colors on Ben Moore color strips. People often shy away from dark colors out of a fear the rooms will seem too dark or the color will close in the room but I don’t find that to be the case in any of my rooms. I think dark colors can add a lot of presence and character to a room.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>I forgot to snap a photo of this powder room wall before starting. All the walls in this powder room are a sage green color, and my client wanted one accent wall with white stripes. Having measured 6” increments across the wall and mapped out where to add the white stripes, I applied yellow Frog Tape to ensure sharp lines when painting the white stripes.   Note: The white papers are my visual reminders of which columns will be painted white. For balance, the accent wall starts with a white stripe and end with a white stripe.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>This is a view of the finished striped wall with the powder room’s door open.   Again, the solid green background was the color I painted the whole powder room first. By painting white stripes over it, the end result was green and white stripes.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This powder room wall is sage green like the others but the photo exposure makes it appear lighter. The mirror above the sink shows the striped wall opposite.</image:caption>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481416808657-YZXK5PTZWE93ZKD55MUE/Den+1.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>My clients wanted to convert the den/spare room into a nursery for their first child. To make the room more fitting for a baby, they wanted the woodwork to be white, and they wanted to add more color into the room by changing the white ceiling and wall color.   Note: the dark color of the doors and wainscoting conflicts a bit with the lighter color of the wood floor.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481416808657-3BP3NM4QD1U839QY0E9E/Den+2.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>Painting the doors and wainscoting white lightened the room and made it seem more fitting for a nursery. Also, the doors and wainscoting, now that they’re painted white, no longer conflict with the color of the wood floor, and that removes a feeling of tension from the room and helps lighten things. The green adds cheerfulness to the room.   Note: this room didn’t have a distinct ceiling like most rooms, it had a lot of angles in it. To create a unified feel in the room, the ceiling was painted green to match the walls; this created an uninterrupted experience of the color. It’s the same green on all surfaces, it just looks a little different in some places in the photo because of shadows.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>Light colored wallpaper was stripped in this entranceway and stairwell. This photo shows the stripped walls with one coat of white oil-base primer on the walls to seal the old wallpaper adhesive residue. There’s nothing wrong with all white rooms but without color, there’s not much to focus visual interest.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58422597e6f2e16ba632e10b/1481418661161-VYFQCVQNU4IL05MWRFQ3/Entrance+2.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Room Colors</image:title>
      <image:caption>Painting the walls a light-tone tan was an understated way to define this entrance area, it’s enough to focus visual attention. And using a brighter white on the woodwork makes the tan walls stand out even more. The tan walls in this entrance area are now similar in tone to the green walls in the living room, which creates a feeling of harmony and flow even though they are two different colors.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Water damage on ceiling and wall. A quick look may suggest the damage is only superficial flaking/peeling paint but the amount of moisture/water needed to cause this reaction in paint means the water most likely damaged underlying wall layers as well. Note: before starting repairs, a big paint chip of the existing wall color was carefully removed from the wall. The paint chip was taken to a paint store where a computer color matching system matched the color closely for the new paint. Having closely matched the paint color, I was able to repaint just the repaired area and have it blend in to the rest of the ceiling and wall area, rather than painting the whole room.</image:caption>
